PRESS RELEASE MARCH 2017

Paris!……chocolate!……..wine!….a French singalong!…….is this the ultimate  musical-theatre recipe?

A toe-tapping new show is in town!  A show where:

  • big musical theatre ballads in English intertwine with simple lively French songs - including a song about ‘chocolat’ !
  • dance styles range from Cossack dancing to ballet and include everything in between:  Tap, Rock n Roll, RAP, a waltz, the Charleston and more!

This show is a fun-packed comedy musical that makes learning French exciting!  With the story told in English, the show’s catchy French songs make learning the language easy for children of all ages!  Singing along is irresistible!

Pinot! The Musical follows the adventures of Petrov,  a young Russian cyclist on an adventure  to realise his dream - to win the Tour de France!  He and his Cossack dancing friends meet colourful characters, including a beggar and a bag lady who tell the story in English, and a clumsy policeman who keeps chasing him. As a diversionary tactic he changes his name to that of a famous French Wine – Pinot Blanc!

Pinot! The Musical -   is on the up!  The one hour show is written and produced by Marie Atallah, whose inspiration came from the belief that learning languages enriches lives and should be fun!  The show has been in development for several years and has now reached its zenith!

In 2010, 6 Wimbledon primary schools collaborated to perform the inaugural performance of the show as part of the International Youth Arts Festival of Kingston upon Thames (IYAF).   Since then, professional showcases have been performed at the Lost Theatre (Wandsworth, London SW8), the Mumford Theatre (Cambridge), and the Colour House Theatre (Colliers Wood, London SW19).  School performances and workshops have also taken place regularly throughout the UK.

In early 2016 the show attracted the interest of acclaimed Paris music director, Samuel Sené,  now  working on the 2018 Paris production of ‘Billy (Elliot) The Musical’ and known on the London scene for his popular ‘West End Frenchies’ evenings at the Toulouse Lautrec Brasserie in Kennington. Samuel coached the international cast on the choral interpretation of all English and French songs, in preparation for the 2016 Fringe summer season at the Colour House Theatre, SW19.

The show’s 2017 choir master, Alexy Bellamy - recently assistant to conductor Stephen Brooker in the Universal Pictures production of Les Miserables - is now putting the international cast through their paces in preparation for the 2017 summer season at the New Wimbledon Studio Theatre SW19.

The show plays for 6 days in May 2017 (starting on Tuesday 02nd May) and six days in June 2017 (starting on Tuesday 13th June).   The 16 school performances are almost all fully booked.

The international cast, whose credits include West End theatre shows, international and UK tours and TV and feature film appearances, are led by directors and choreographers Deborah Swain and recent RADA graduate Adrian Klein.  Deborah’s extensive theatre and television experience includes performing as singer, dancer and actor in a wide range of productions touring the UK and America, including Disney cruises and productions.  In addition,  Deborah has worked as a director and choreographer for many production companies.   Adrian has impressive film, theatre and dance credentials including a role in the feature film ‘Our Kind of Traitor’ screened in cinemas in 2016.

The show’s top track on YouTube the French Alphabet RAP  has well over 1 million views rising daily as French teachers from the USA to Australia use the track regularly in their classrooms.
